Patricia Jane St. John
Danko was born in Orange, Texas. As a child, she played in the swamps and
marshlands of southeast Texas, where she received a Catholic school education
that continued through her first undergraduate
degree.
The rural closeness to nature
and parochial schooling of her childhood, and later years spent living in
Mexico and South America, are reflected in her work, which raises penetrating
questions about the validity of contemporary religious orthodoxy, its influence
on western culture and thought, and the pagan roots of Judeo-Christian
mythologies.
Her work explores the most
personal, yet universal, of human issues, those not easily articulated, but
clearly existing in memory, instantly, and often disturbingly, intuited and
recognized by the viewer.
Ms. St. John Danko is also
known for her art therapeutic projects with the inner city youth of Houston. In
addition, she has conducted many community outreach workshops for children,
including those she created for the Orange Show Foundation, Houston Grand
Opera, the Houston Zoo, the Gregory-Lincoln Education Center, and the Galveston
Mardi Gras "Running of the Calves" Munchkins Parade. Her art therapeutic
work with children is documented as part of the PBS television production,
"The Orange Show Concert Series for Children."
Her complete biography can
be found in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the Southwest, and
Who's Who in the World. Consult the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature
for reviews, criticisms, and additional writings.
