It is easy to
fínd the remains of the Middle Ages in all the towns in the Conca de Barberà region,
with this conferring upon it a medieval charm. The magnificent walled enclosure of
Montblanc along with the churches, ancient hospitals, palaces, estates and the Medieval
Week of Sant Jordí, all come to convert the capital of the region into a monumental
jewel.
Another jewel is the monastery of Poblet, in the municípal
district of Vimbodí, a town that has other attractive elements too, such as the
"Riudabella" castle and the "Transfiguració del Senyor" church.
In Espluga de Francolí we find the church of Sant Miquel; in Sarral the remains of a
Jewish passageway may be observed and of course ín Barberà de la Conca itself, the
remains of a castle pertaining to the Templars may be viewed.
Conesa preserves
a clearly medieval flair thanks to its cobbled streets, the remains of the castle, the
gateways of the walls and its church. Santa Coloma de Queralt, the main town of the
ancient Earldom of Queralt, preserves its gateways, churches and the castle of the Earls
themselves.
Throughout the entire Baíxa Segarra area ít ís possíble to
make excursions where the castles that once stood vigil to the border between Old and New
Catalonía, like in La Sala de Comalats,
a little village between Forés and Passanant, where you can see a watch tower, part of a
old castle from the XI century, and two mansions from the XV century.
